Only Messi has more goals, Moreno gets assists like United target Kane and could end their Europa League dream

Only Lionel Messi (30) scored more goals than the Villarreal ace in LaLiga last season as he hit the back of the net 23 times - the same tally as Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.

Moreno isn't just a striker, though. He's capable of much more having adapted his game in recent years.

Under Quique Sanchez Flores he began to drift away from a poaching role and now, finishing the job under ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery, contributes with plenty of assists too.

In Spain alone he created seven goals for teammates, while in the Europa League he laid on five and scored six of his own.

Manchester United, who look set to have centre-back Harry Maguire out injured in Gdansk, need to be wary.

"I was always a centre-forward," he told The Guardian. "Quique put me up front, but dropping in and more involved and I felt comfortable, like I had found my place.

"That's been reinforced by managers since, opening my options, allowing more freedom, more movement.

"You always learn new things and all the more so from a coach like Unai Emery.

"This is a group of players that like to treat the ball well, combine, and he's reinforcing that. He's a big part of the success in Europe: the preparation for the games, the contagious ambition, the experience in this competition. He's won it various times, he's on top of us, talks to everyone."

And we could see even more of Moreno at Euro 2020, even if he is likely to play second fiddle to Alvaro Morata with Spain.

He's got five goals in 10 international appearances, striking against Malta, Romania, Switzerland, and Kosovo, while also contributing four assists.

Moreno can do both, much like Tottenham star Harry Kane, who is wanted by the Red Devils in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, not unlike Kane, former Spain boss Roberto Moreno labelled Moreno 'a player you'd let marry your daughter. A polite, honest, hard-working lad with the patience and humility to wait, work to improve.'

If Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aren't careful, the unassuming star just might make his name at their expense.
