Born in a refugee camp in Tanzania, Irankunda's parents fled war-torn Burundi before moving to Perth in Australia and then Adelaide.
Here, the youngster's prodigal football talents came to light, quickly becoming a sensation with Adelaide United.
Bayern Munich have snapped up the teenager this month for a reported fee of £3million and he will join the squad in the next transfer window in January.
Tipped as one of Australia's hottest prospects, it might not be long before Irankunda is linking up with Harry Kane in the Bundesliga.
"I'm happy to have this all finalised and to be heading to one of the best clubs in the world — it's a real dream come true," Irankunda said.
