Mourinho slammed for "uncomfortable situation" after criticising Roma players

Jose Mourinho suffered one of the lowest points of his managerial career last week as Roma crashed to a humiliating 6-1 defeat against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League.

The heavy defeat led to a familiar Mourinho tactic where he attempted to shift blame onto the players by throwing them under the bus.

As per Football Italia, Mourinho blasted his players after their shock loss: "There are people among you who wouldn't even play here in Norway, or even in Serie B."

Three days after, Roma were held to a scoreless draw by Serie A leaders Napoli - a game in which Mourinho was sent off - with five players banished from the matchday squad who had participated in Norway.

Marash Kumbulla, Bryan Reynolds, Ricardo Calafiori, Borja Mayoral and Amadou Diawara were all forced to watch on from the stands with their manager reserving harsh words for them in his media comments.

Jose Mourinho was sent off as Roma drew 0-0 with Napoli in Serie A

Mourinho told reporters: "These are messages for the dressing room, that game (in Norway) will remain in my history and for me, it's difficult to forgive."

That followed on from his message after the loss in Norway: "The initial XI of today of Bodo Glimt had better quality than us. Now you can stop asking why we play always the same players."

The Portuguese boss moved to reaffirm the ostracization of players by announcing after the draw against Napoli that the exact same players would be used for the midweek clash with Cagliari.

Now, the agent of one of those players involved has spoken out against the manager's words and actions, claiming that it has created an "uncomfortable situation" at the club which is "inexplicable".

Diawara's agent Daniele Piraino told Tuttomercatoweb, as per Football Italia : "I don't understand the message he's trying to get across.

"Is Diawara being made a scapegoat? Is he being made to pay a heavy price for an error? Or is it an attempt to force the club into acting on the transfer market?

"If it is for these reasons, rather than just poor fitness, or he feels the player is unable to understand the tactical requirements of the coach, then I think Mourinho is creating an uncomfortable situation.

"It is inexplicable, but Diawara will adapt. Amadou is an exceptional professional."

After winning their opening three Serie A matches of the campaign, Mourinho's side have just two wins in six - falling short of the expectations triggered by the club's summer spending.

Wednesday's trip to Cagliari is followed by a home game against high-flying Milan and anything less than a return to form is unlikely to lighten the mood.
