Mourinho given angry reception after gesture which left Ronaldo 'furious'

Jose Mourinho was given angry reception by Juventus supporters on Sunday after his 2018 gesture which left Cristiano Ronaldo 'furious.'

The current Roma boss returned to Turin for the first time since Manchester United 's 2-1 Champions League victory over the Bianconeri, in which he riled fans of the Italian giants following the late comeback win through Juan Mata 's free-kick.

And over the weekend, Mourinho was beaten in controversial circumstances at the Allianz Stadium as Massimiliano Allegri and co got revenge.

A report from ESPN has previously claimed that Ronaldo, who scored for Juventus back in the 2018 group-stage match and worked under his Portuguese compatriot at Real Madrid, was not happy with the former Inter Milan manager's post-match gesture as his old boss cupped his ear to the home supporters.

The website says a source told them: "A lot of the players were p****d off with [Mourinho] because it seemed like he was making the win about him rather than the team and Cristiano was furious with him, too.

"He walked past and said, 'he doesn't have the class to manage Manchester United.'''

Mourinho - also disliked by Bianconeri fans due to his time at rivals Inter - was sacked just over a month later, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking up the Old Trafford hot seat on an initial interm basis.

But fast forward almost three years and Solskjaer is now under pressure at United, with 'the Special One' back in Serie A.

And in typical Mourinho fashion, he bit back at the Juve crowd on Sunday after being taunted, showing three fingers as a reminder of the treble he won with Inter.

They persistently insulted the 58-year-old, who only reacted on one occasion.

Mourinho also protested when referee Daniele Orsato gave three minutes of additional time at full-time, with television cameras showing he kept three fingers up in direction of Juve's ultras.

His biggest gripe, however, was the controversial penalty decision late in the first half after Everton flop Moise Kean had given the hosts an early lead.

After stalwart defender Giorgio Chiellini lost the ball towards the halfway line, Roma pounced and Tammy Abraham did brilliantly to weave his way into the penalty area before being fouled by ex- Manchester City defender Danilo.

Orsato played advantage, leading to Giallorossi playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan picking up the ball and himself being illegally brought down by home goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The referee blew his whistle, although Abraham had tapped in the ball that immediately ricocheted to him following the Pole's challenge and the former Chelsea striker thought he had equalised for the visitors.

Instead, a penalty was awarded which Jordan Veretout, formerly of Aston Villa, stepped up to take.

But the French midfielder, who had previously never missed from the spot as a Roma player, saw his effort saved by ex-Giallorossi stopper Szczesny.

"Giving three minutes of stoppages, that shows intention," Mourinho told DAZN following full-time.

"The penalty incident, I don't want to comment on. I don't have all the information at hand, I haven't seen the replays.

"I want to isolate myself from that incident and concentrate on everything my team did.

"All the words we heard from Juventus in the tunnel and the locker room, I hope they say it in public too. They know how much they struggled against us."

He added: "I won here many years ago without playing so well, today we lost when playing very well and showing we are going in the right direction."
