The Gunners' start to the season went from bad to worse as they put in a hapless performance and were humiliated at the Etihad.
Ilkay Gundogan, Ferran Torres (x2), Gabriel Jesus and Rodri made it three defeats from three for Mikel Arteta's side, who are still yet to score in the league.
And pressure is now seriously intensifying on the Arsenal manager.
Former star Ozil reacted with a tweet referencing this on social media.
He simply posted, "Trust the process," with broken heart and glum faced emojis.
Many Arsenal fans responded to this by accusing Ozil of taking a not-so-subtle dig at Arteta.
The playmaker joined Fenerbahce back in January after reaching an agreement with the Gunners to leave six months before the end of his contract.
When the move was confirmed by Arsenal along with a statement from Ozil on the club's website, there was no mention of Arteta.
Arteta did thank him for his time at Arsenal despite their apparent frosty relationship that saw him left out of their Premier League and Europa League squads last season.
Troy Deeney told talkSPORT late last year that he was disappointed by Arsenal's treatment of Ozil.
Deeney said in November 2020: "What people don't see is what happens behind closed doors.
There's obviously an issue with his wages and he's in the last year of his contract… they may have said something to the effect of: 'We want you to take a pay cut'.
"But as player you think: 'Why? I didn't force you, I didn't put a gun to your head and say offer me this money'.
"He hasn't done anything wrong.
"They're not fining him for being late or refusing to play, it's coming down to an issue of style of play - does he work hard enough for the new formation - and money.
"I'm sure at a later date he will talk about it and everyone will think: 'Ah, yeah, maybe it was a bit harsh'. But, sadly, people don't see what happens behind closed doors, they only see the performance on Saturday.
"Something has definitely happened because he's fallen off the face of the earth and he's not even made the 25-man squad.
"You could make the argument, is that poor management?"
