Manchester United planning clearout in 2024 to make room for David Alaba?

Manchester United are reportedly planning to part ways with several of their current players next summer as they look to make room for the acquisition of Real Madrid defender David Alaba.

The centre-back positions for Manchester United have been rotated among six different players this season, yet the team has conceded the third-lowest number of goals in the Premier League.

In recent matches, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans have formed the central defensive partnership, while Luke Shaw has also filled in since returning from injury.

According to Fichajes, The Red Devils are expected to offload a number of centre-backs in the summer of 2024 as part of their strategy to make a move for Alaba from Real Madrid.

The report adds that Evans and Victor Lindelof will both depart on a free transfer after their contracts expire, while Raphael Varane could be set to leave either in January for a nominal fee or for free at the end of the season.

At the same time, there remains uncertainty about Maguire's future, as he was listed for transfer this past summer before reclaiming a starting role in the team.

It is understood that among the existing central defenders at Old Trafford, only Lisandro Martinez is guaranteed a place at the club in 2024-25.

Alaba joined Los Blancos on a free transfer from Bayern Munich as the replacement for Varane back in 2021.
