Manchester United's current reshuffle means that there will certainly be a shake-up in regards to squad numbers, and Christian Eriksen must weigh up which shirt he will be wearing next season.
The Denmark international was announced as the latest arrival at Old Trafford earlier this week after finally deciding where he wanted his future to lie. Eriksen was weighing up whether to remain at Brentford, who gave him his platform to get his career back on track, or commit his future to Erik ten Hag's project.
Reports have circulated that the former Tottenham playmaker is going to be one of the pivotal cogs in the machine at United, along with Frenkie de Jong if they are able to persuade the Barcelona star to join them. And for that very reason, it will be interesting to see what number he takes at the club - though he isn't short of options; Mirror Sport takes a look at five options.
No. 6
Perhaps a more obscure choice for an attacking midfielder, but the no.6 shirt is now available if Eriksen is keen. It is the lowest unoccupied number at the club following the departure of Paul Pogba earlier this summer - who re-joined Juventus after six years at The Theatre of Dreams. Given that Ten Hag has reportedly suggested that Eriksen will play in a two-man midfield, perhaps handing him the no. 6 would suggest that his defensive work will be put to the test in the coming campaign.
No. 13
Another now-vacant shirt is the no.13 after Lee Grant was allowed to leave the club this summer. It hasn't been the most sought-after shirt in years gone by, though Ji-sung Park did enjoy his time at United whilst donning the 'unlucky for some' number.
No. 14
Jesse Lingard has left United as a free agent, meaning that his no.14 shirt is up for grabs. Given that the England international played as a creative midfielder previously, Ten Hag may decide to assign Eriksen with that number to continue that trend.
No. 21
A likely option for Eriksen is for him to remain as a no.21, in which he wore upon his return to the Premier League. He scored once and assisted four in 11 league appearances for the Bees, playing a vital role in their shift from relegation-battling to almost a midtable side. Edinson Cavani wore the no.21 previously, with Ander Herrera occupying the number before that.
No. 24
Another number available at United that Eriksen has worn previously is the 24, which he wore at Inter Milan. The Dane was instrumental in their Serie A success in the 2020/21 campaign under Antonio Conte, linking up with now-Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku - though he has returned to the San Siro outfit on loan. Eriksen could certainly be tempted to return to his no.24 shirt and continue in the rich vein of form that he left Inter in. The number has not been worn at United since academy product Timothy Fosu-Mensah pulled on the strip.
Other numbers below 30 are available: 15, 18, 26.
