Man Utd dressing room 'feelings' on Solskjaer cemented by Liverpool thrashing

There is little hiding place for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from the pressure, scrutiny and damning glare of the spotlight he is under at Old Trafford after Sunday's capitulation against Liverpool.

Just over a year on from the 6-1 drubbing by Tottenham on home soil, Solskjaer stood helpless on the touchline as his United side sank without trace in the 5-0 demolition by their rivals.

Now as the club consider whether to set sail in a different direction, without Solskjaer on board, the United boss has the difficult task of rallying his troops inside the dressing room.

But that could prove harder than even he might realise, as feeling amongst United's players has reportedly been cemented by Sunday's humiliation.

Boos rang out around Old Trafford as United trudged back inside, already 4-0 down after Liverpool had picked them apart at ease.

A vast number of United fans had already seen enough as they made their way out of the exits at half-time and began their journeys home.

They might not be the only ones who have lost hope in the manager.

According to The Guardian, general consensus within United's squad is that Solskjaer is a nice guy, but is 'underwhelming' tactically.

Some criticism has already been levied at Solskjaer and how he is not on the same level as rival managers Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola.

That belief now seems to ring true even inside the four walls of United's dressing room as the players are sceptical that Solskjaer is good enough to lead the club back to the top of English and European football, despite him remaining a 'well-liked' figure.

Sadly for Solskjaer, that feeling looks like it may well have spread to the United hierarchy as the same report claims that managing director Richard Arnold cancelled all his appointments on Monday to hold showdown talks with co-owner Joel Glazer.

Former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is being heavily linked with succeeding Solskjaer if he gets the boot, though pundit Gary Neville does not believe the Italian would be a good choice.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: "They won't bring a hitman in again. A hitman who comes in and does a job for two years.

"Conte's available but I wouldn't bring him to Manchester United. I wouldn't bring him here now, I wouldn't.

"I don't think Antonio Conte is a fit for Manchester United. I don't think he's a fit.

"I might be wrong, they might bring him here tomorrow and I'd get behind him.

"We've seen a coach with a specific style like Louis Van Gaal didn't work here. I'm not saying there isn't a manager who can come to Manchester United and do well."

If he keeps his job, Solskjaer will face a defining period as manager, with away clashes against Tottenham and Atalanta to come before the visit of Manchester City to Old Trafford.
