Man Utd dressing room 'celebrated' when 'pain in the a***' Ronaldo wanted exit

While Manchester United fans continue to debate whether Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club would be beneficial, it seems members of Erik ten Hag's squad have already made up their minds Ronaldo's exit plea was reportedly greeted with joy from inside Man Utd's dressing room

Cristiano Ronaldo 's teammates at Manchester United reportedly celebrated when they learned that he wanted to leave this summer.

The Portuguese megastar, whose 24 goals in all competitions last season earned him the club's player of the year award, is desperate to leave the Red Devils before the summer transfer window slams shut on Thursday. With a burning desire to continue playing Champions League football, Ronaldo hopes agent Jorge Mendes can engineer a move after receiving snub after snub over the past month.

While supporters are split on whether the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's departure would help progress new manager Erik ten Hag 's new era at Old Trafford, Ronaldo's teammates appear to have made their minds up. ESPN report that the majority of United players reacted with joy when it emerged in July that the legendary No.7 wanted to leave, as he'd become a "pain in the a***."

Ronaldo has remained tight-lipped on whether he wants to exit Old Trafford less than a year after completing a sensational homecoming transfer. Recently, the Portugal captain pledged to do an interview once the window closed in order to shed light on the facts and falsehoods of his transfer saga.

"They [will] know the truth when they interview [me] in a couple of weeks. The media is telling lies," Ronaldo claimed on Instagram. "I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip."

As for events on the pitch, Ten Hag has handed Ronaldo just one start this season and that was in the humiliating 4-0 drubbing at Brentford. But the Red Devils boss, at least publicly, hopes that the striker will be in his squad beyond transfer deadline day. "We played with him. So we want him to stay," Ten Hag affirmed after Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 victory over Southampton. "That is what we want. I hope so."

And following United's pulsating 2-1 win against Liverpool last Monday, Ten Hag declared that he was confident Ronaldo could adapt to his system. "I think he can [adapt], and in his whole career and under several managers, he did. In several styles and systems, he always performed," the Dutch tactician explained.

"Why can't he do this [again]? His age is not an issue. If you are young, you are good enough, and when you are old, you still deliver the performance, you are also good enough."

We're sure to know the answer soon, as Ronaldo's fate will be decided in just over 72 hours' time.
