A mid-season move for a player capable of operating as a left-sided wing-back in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system has not been ruled out, but it much more likely that the club will wait until the end of the campaign.
Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, AC Milan's Theo Hernandez, Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez and Paris Saint-Germain's Nuno Mendes are among the players to be linked with moves to Old Trafford.
According to Sky Deutschland, Raum is also an option, with the 20-time English champions considering making a move for the Germany international during next summer's transfer window.
The defender is currently on the sidelines with an ankle problem which he suffered at the start of October, but he started the 2024-25 campaign as Leipzig's first-choice left-back and has made nine appearances this term.
Raum 'emerges as a transfer target for Man United'
New Man United head coach Amorim is believed to have made a left-sided wing-back a priority next year amid Luke Shaw's ongoing injury problems, while Tyrell Malacia is only just back after 18 months on the sidelines.
Shaw is facing more time out of action with a fresh issue, while Diogo Dalot has not convinced in that area of the field, so an incoming in that position next year is seen as a certainty for the Red Devils.
Raum made the move to Leipzig from Hoffenheim in 2022, and he has represented his current side on 89 occasions in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering 16 assists in the process.
The defender has an impressive record of five goals and 26 assists in 97 Bundesliga appearances during his career, while he has been capped on 26 occasions by Germany and represented his country at Euro 2024.
Raum has a contract at Leipzig until June 2027, with the defender still on the same deal that he signed upon his arrival at Red Bull Arena in the summer of 2022.
