The Red Devils parted company with manager Erik ten Hag last month and have since confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim, who will officially take charge of the club on November 11.
As Amorim gets ready to embark on his new 'adventure' at Old Trafford, the rumour mill continues to link Man United with a host of players from across the globe ahead of the January transfer window.
Amorim is expected to deploy a three-at-the-back system at Man United which he has regularly used during his successful four-year spell in charge of Sporting Lisbon, where he has won two league title.
Man United have been tipped to raid Sporting and sign as many as four players from the Portuguese giants, including centre-back duo Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande.
Christensen to become first signing of Amorim era?
According to El Nacional, the Red Devils have also expressed an interest in Barcelona defender Christensen and have launched a €15m (£12.6m) offer.
The report adds that Barcelona's sporting director Deco 'would be willing to consider' United's bid as the La Liga leaders are open to selling the 28-year-old.
It is claimed that Christensen's future at Camp Nou 'is in doubt' as he will likely fall down the pecking order when fellow centre-backs Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia return from injury.
Barcelona's well-documented financial issue are forcing the club to cash in on a few players to balance their books, and Christensen is one name who could be sacrificed if the club wishes to generate funds for new additions.
Christensen facing uncertain future at Barcelona?
Christensen began his senior career with Chelsea and spent eight years at Stamford Bridge - including a two-year loan at Borussia Monchengladbach - before joining Barcelona on a free transfer in 2022.
The Denmark international has since made a total of 75 first-team appearances for the Catalan giants in all competitions, but he has only featured once this season due to a troublesome Achilles injury.
Christensen is thought to be closing in on a return, but he may struggle to force his way into Hansi Flick's first-team plans, as 17-year-old sensation Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez have formed a strong centre-back partnership so far this season.
As mentioned previously, both Araujo and Garcia are also closing in on a return from injury and the former, in particular, would presumably be favoured for regular starts in defence over Christensen, who is under contract at Barca until June 2026.
