The 17-year-old scored eight goals and registered 10 assists in 33 appearances for Rosenborg during their recent season, while he has 13 goals and 11 assists in 60 games in total for the Norwegian giants.
Nypan has a contract with Rosenborg until December 2026, but it is widely expected that he will be on the move next year, with a number of major European clubs believed to be keen on his signature.
Man United have long been regarded as the favourites, though, and new Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim is said to be a huge admirer of the attacker, who is viewed as one of the best young talents in world football.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Man United's interest in Nypan 'has intensified', with the club now confident that they will be able to secure his signature during the upcoming January transfer window.
Nypan could become Amorim's first signing at Man United
The report claims that the youngster is set to become Amorim's first signing since arriving as head coach, but more new players could arrive before the winter window closes for business.
Nypan has allegedly asked for assurances over the amount of first-team football that he would receive at Man United, with the attacker wary of his career stalling after such a bright start.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are also believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation, while Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are said to lead the German interest.
Nypan's release clause is £83m, but it is understood that Man United are looking to do a deal in the region of £10m, which could rise to £20m once various add-ons have been taken into consideration.
Why are Man United in such a strong position?
The youngster revealed back in 2023 that he supports Man United, telling TV2: "I've always been a Manchester United fan. Then of course there is Real Madrid. I'm a big [Cristiano] Ronaldo fan. It's very unrealistic, but it's the dream."
Meanwhile, Nypan is represented by Rafaela Pimenta, who engineered moves for Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt to Man United from Bayern Munich during the recent transfer window.
Mazraoui and De Ligt have been two of Man United's most impressive performers this season, and Pimenta is said to be pushing for Nypan to also make the move to Old Trafford in 2025.
Nypan primarily features as a central midfielder, but he is also capable of operating in the number 10 position, meaning that he could be used in two areas in Amorim's 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.
