Colorado Rapids rallied from a two-goal deficit and scored three goals in less than 15 minutes to beat New York Red Bulls, who conceded all the goals they avoided against Barcelona, 5-4 in MLS match at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.
The hangover from the game vs. Barcelona
Three days after their friendly game against Barcelona, which they lost 2-0, but from which they were saved on many occasions, Red Bulls returned to local competition to take on Colorado, who they scored two goals in less than 10 minutes, but were unable to hold on to the lead and ended up getting beaten.
Dru Yearwood, in the sixth minute, and Aaron Long, in the ninth minute, scored the goals that gave the home team a comfortable lead.
Although an error at the start allowed the Chilean Diego Rubio to score and allow Colorado to get closer on the scoreboard, his tenth goal of the tournament, Red Bulls recovered their two-goal lead with a goal by Lewis Morgan, at the 28th minute on penalty, but the visiting team continued in search of a favorable result and went to the break with a goal behind, as Keegan Rosenberry (38) made it 3-2 with a shot outside the box.
Colorado Rapids' three goals in 15 minutes
With the match level in the second half, and without the dizzying pace of the first half, the New York Red Bulls looked to be on their way to victory, but Colorado responded in the last 15 minutes of the match.
Collen Warner, in the 77th minute, Michael Barrios, in the 80th minute, and Dantouma Toure, in the 89th minute, scored the comeback that seemed unthinkable and allowed them to add the three points.
Although the Red Bulls stepped up the accelerator in the final moments to seek at least a draw, they only managed one more goal, scored by Tom Barlow in the 97th minute, which was not enough and the New Yorkers suffered defeat.
