Andriy Lunin wants to play more and get more opportunities than what he has been given since he arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2018.
The 23-year-old is looking for a team that would guarantee him more playing time or a place where he can at least compete to be a starter, which he can't do at Real Madrid thanks to the presence of Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid are aware of Lunin's intention and they are already in search of a potential replacement, with Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina having been placed on their radar.
The Colombian shot-stopper's contract ends on June 30 and, should the two parties reach an agreement, Real Madrid will have two experienced goalkeepers available in the squad, along with academy products Lucas Canizares, Luis Lopez and Toni Fuidias.
Lunin's relationship with Ancelotti and Courtois is excellent. In fact, the Italian coach is delighted with his work rate, so much so that during the season he was very close to offering him the opportunity he wants.
However, a couple of poor results for the team forced Ancelotti against making that decision, with Lunin getting playing time towards the end of this campaign against Atletico Madrid and Cadiz, as he demonstrated that he is ready to be a starter.
The Madrid derby was his first-ever LaLiga Santander game for Real Madrid. He had previously made his debut in the league with Leganes, for whom he played five games.
Loan spells and very few minutes
Lunin arrived at Real Madrid in 2018 and the truth is that he has hardly played for Los Blancos since then.
He was loaned out to Leganes, Real Valladolid and Real Oviedo, where he played 20 games. Lunin wasn't in Zinedine Zidane's plans last season, but he managed to clinch a spot in the squad with Ancelotti in charge.
Now, Lunin is willing to try his luck elsewhere and his decision has sparked a debate at the club regarding his potential replacement. While some directors would opt for another talented youngster, the idea of having an experienced goalkeeper to complement Courtois has prevailed.
Together at Napoli
Ancelotti knows Ospina well, as the two men coincided at Napoli. The Italian believes that the goalkeeping duo of Ospina and Courtois will be ideal to cover that position.
Meanwhile, he is fond of Lunin's talent and believes that the Ukrainian deserves the opportunity to be considered as a starter.
Ospina has been Napoli's first-choice goalkeeper in Serie A, having helped the team remain in the title race until the last stretch of the season.
As MARCA has learned, Ospina would accept coming to Real Madrid in the knowledge that he has perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world ahead of him in the pecking order.
