Simakan joined Die Roten Bullen in 2021 from Strasbourg and has developed into one of the Bundesliga's most reliable defenders.
Over the past three years, he has become a key player for Leipzig, making 42 appearances last season and contributing three goals and four assists across all competitions.
Although he is content at Leipzig, the 23-year-old is reportedly open to taking the next step in his career, and it seems his next challenge may take him to the Premier League.
Liverpool to move for Simakan before summer transfer deadline?
According to Italian news outlet TuttoJuve, Liverpool maintain an interest in Simakan as they look to secure a replacement for Joel Matip before the transfer window closes.
The report adds that while the Reds' interest in the Leipzig defender is not "advanced or concrete," Simakan is on their shortlist of potential defensive targets.
However, it is understood that Arne Slot's side are not the only European giant interested in the 23-year-old, with Juventus also keeping an eye on the Frenchman.
Leipzig are believed to be keen to keep hold of their centre-back this season but have set an asking price of between £34m to £38m to consider allowing him to depart before the transfer deadline.
Simakan originally joined the Bundesliga outfit on a five-year contract but signed a one-year extension in December 2022, which means that his current deal at Red Bull Arena runs until the summer of 2027.
Reds make solid start to new season despite quiet summer window
Despite being the only club that has yet to make a new signing this summer, Liverpool have got off to an impressive start to the Slot era.
The Reds secured back-to-back 2-0 wins in their first two matches of the new season, with the first coming against newly promoted Ipswich Town before last weekend's victory over Brentford.
Slot has previously defended the club's lack of activity in the transfer market, stating that he has inherited a very good squad from Jurgen Klopp, though he has not ruled out the possibility of potential late signings.
Among the players who have been linked with a possible move to Anfield ahead of the transfer deadline are Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite and Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
Liverpool's reported interest in defensive reinforcements stem from the uncertainty surrounding Joe Gomez's future, while club captain Virgil van Dijk is now in the final 12 months of his contract.
