Liverpool's January transfer plans clear after Klopp's Takumi Minamino admission

Rumours have circulated that Liverpool are preparing for a busy January window, but comments from Jurgen Klopp suggest that the versatility of some players gives his side plenty of strength in depth

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may have suggested that his side won't be overly busy in the January transfer window after revealing the versatility of Takumi Minamino.

The Reds spent just £34million over the summer to bring in defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

After the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, many expected Klopp to push bring in a world-class replacement for the Dutchman.

However, the Reds appeared to put the faith in fringe players Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and James Milner to step up instead.

But a recent revelation from Klopp suggests that there is further depth in the Liverpool squad.

Speaking after the Reds beat Arsenal 4-0 thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Minamino, the latter was revealed as one of Liverpool's most versatile players.

"You can't imagine how happy I am with Taki (Minamino), He's in an incredible moment and today he was actually our solution for four positions, I think.

"Five positions actually because he could have played both eight positions and all three upfront. He's in a really good moment and you see that.

"I'm pretty sure he played really well for Japan in the international games. Now he's here and very important for us."

Minamino arrived at Anfield in 2020 for £7million after he impressed against the Reds whilst playing for Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League.

The Japanese winger hasn't had too many chances to impress in the Premier League due to Klopp's front three of Mane, Salah and Roberto Firmino being pretty set in stone.

But opportunities appear to be on the horizon for the 26-year-old, especially as Salah and Mane will be away at the African Cup of Nations for January.

Klopp continued: "We're so happy, everybody was so happy for him that he scored the goal. The way he played today reflects how well he is training at the moment.

Who should Liverpool sign in the January transfer window? Comment below

"He will have games, no doubt about that."

Liverpool have previously been linked with signing another forward over January too as a short-term fix for the potential goal drought, and Klopp's update on injured winger Harvey Elliott suggests that still come to light.

The English forward made a flying start to the Premier League season being deployed as a no.10 in midfield but his spell in the team came to an end after suffering a horrific ankle injury against Leeds.

The tackle required surgery in September which has left the former Blackburn loanee sidelined for several months now, but the 18-year-old could be back sooner than most expected, though he is still early on in his recovery.

Elliott is thought to be at the very start of his injury rehabilitation, but he is tackling it head-on.

"He is still in a very early stage of his recovery and it's important to keep expectations around his return realistic. He is still a long way off being able to train fully with the team, let alone play in a game.

"But his progress is positive and it's more about how he has responded and how he has attacked his rehab. It's a perfect example of how you should react when facing a setback."

It remains to be seen who arrives in Merseyside in January, or whether Minamino could be the answer to a lot of Liverpool fans' woes.
