Liverpool fans split on Alexander-Arnold as angry Red turns on 'rat'

The three are all out of contract in the summer, but Alexander-Arnold has been the focus of all the attention having been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

talkSPORT understands Liverpool have rejected an approach from Real Madrid to sign the player in January, however, as things stand they will be powerless in the summer with Alexander-Arnold's Anfield contract expiring in June.

Alexander-Arnold leaving his boyhood club has caused a divide among Reds fans, although Liverpool fan Lee made it very clear where he stands on the debate, labelling the defender a 'rat'.

"He's a Liverpool boy. Why does he want to go to Real Madrid when he can win everything with Liverpool like he already has?" Lee questioned.

"He said he wants to be captain of Liverpool and be like Steven Gerrard. If he goes, he'll be hated in my eyes.

"I'd rather have a statue outside than go to Madrid for four years when you can't even speak the language just to say he went to Madrid. He's a rat".

After the call ended, talkSPORT's Natalie Sawyer said: "If he's won everything there is to win at Liverpool, why wouldn't he want to try and do that somewhere else? It's ambition, isn't it?"

Another fan called The Sports Bar to voice his disdain at the 'selfish' and 'greedy' Alexander-Arnold. He also had a personal message for the right-back.

"If you can tag this selfish man, Trent Alexander-Arnold into this message, please tag him because I need him to hear it," Reds fan Mo told Jason Cundy and Jermaine Pennant.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold if you're listening you are nothing but a selfish, greedy, self-centred, narcissistic, arrogant young man and I cannot wait to see the back of you.

"Please Liverpool sell him now, I want him out tonight. I'll pack his bags for him. He's nothing, I don't want this arrogance in Liverpool Football Club, I want him to leave now. I'll book his flight personally with the money I earned last night.

"I'll book his flight to Madrid right now. I'm sick of hearing about Trent Alexander-Arnold, he is so selfish".

Ex-Liverpool and Arsenal winger Pennant issued a defence of Alexander-Arnold, insisting that there is nothing wrong with leaving a club.

"He will become a miserable failure like [Eden] Hazard. He will fail there," Mo responded.

However, Liverpool fan Stuart insisted that the right-back owes the club nothing.

"Good luck to the lad, do you know what I mean? Why would he want to leave though?" Stuart said.

"It is Real Madrid, but right now... look where Liverpool are.

"People are having a go at the lad but we always have a go at players for not trying new things and testing the waters abroad.

"So if he wants to leave, he owes the club nothing and we move on. No one's bigger than the club."

The right-back, considered one of the best ball-passers in the world, has played over 350 games for Liverpool, scoring 20 times and assisting 85.

Despite his club success, he has only made 33 England appearances, with former boss Sir Gareth Southgate struggling to use him to his best ability.

His time at Liverpool has seen him win a Premier League title, an FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and the Champions League.

As of January 1, Alexander-Arnold and teammates Salah and Van Dijk can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of England.
