The Argentine scored twice against FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup, helping his side come back to draw 4-4 and go on to win on penalties to advance to the quarter-finals.
Messi's double takes his goal tally for Inter Miami up to seven in just four appearances.
But aside from the impressive return, the 2022 World Cup winner is now also the club's joint-fourth highest scorer since the club was founded in 2018.
Current team-mate Josef Martinez is also on seven goals, with former players Lewis Morgan, who previously played for Sunderland and Celtic, and Rodolfo Pizarro also scoring the same number.

The only players ahead of Messi's tally include current Inter Miami player Robert Taylor, who has scored eight.
Inter Miami star Leo Campana is in second, having netted 16 since arriving on loan last January and then signing permanently.
The club's highest ever scorer is retired striker Gonzalo Higuain, who scored 29 times in 70 appearances between 2020 and the end of Inter Miami's 2022 MLS season.
Given it's taken Messi just four appearances to go one behind Taylor, he may well be hot on the tails of club record scorer Higuain soon.
