Carlos Vela and the Los Angeles FC defeated the Portland Timbers 2-1 at the last minute to win the MLS Supporters' Shield and thus be recognized as the best team of the 2022 season, so they will arrive in the best conditions and motivated to the playoffs and, without a doubt, as one of the top favorites for the MLS title.
Carlos Vela shined
Carlos Vela, one of LAFC's most important players, christened the scoreboard in the 51st minute, and when the points seemed imminent with Dairon Asprilla's equalizer (81st), Denis Bouanga appeared in the 95th minute to give the LAFC team the victory at Providence Park.
Four defeats in five games
The streak of four defeats in five matches was left behind as LAFC looks like a strong team that will be a contender for the title. This Sunday they already won a title, the one that recognizes the best team of the entire MLS season, and with their 67 points and the leadership in the West, they signed an unforgettable season, but the most complicated part is yet to come.
Vela scored the first goal
These teams offered little excitement in the first 45 minutes, but barely 6 minutes into the second half when Vela received a ball outside the box and, before the complacency of the backline, he settled and scored a left-footed goal to make it 1-0, another great goal for the soul of this team.
Without Vela on the field, who left to applause in the 77th minute, coach Steve Cherundolo was not counting on Asprilla's goal to complicate the final stretch of the match, as the Portland player got between two defenders and headed in to level the match.
Denis Bouanga shines with th game-winning goal
When everything seemed to be decided, Denis Bouanga took the ball down the left flank and headed into the box, got between two players and, falling down, fired a shot to make the final score 2-1, which recognizes LAFC as the best team of the season and motivates them to go for the title.
Gareth Bale entered the field in the 85th minute, along with Cristian Tello, and they could do little, but they did celebrate with their teammates the MLS Supporters' Shield, undoubtedly a great boost for what is to come. With one game left to play, LAFC will begin their playoff run in the conference semifinals on October 20.
