Klopp will not 'dwell' on Mane exit as replacement suits Liverpool boss

mirror.co.uk, 24 June 2022, 05:00
Sadio Mane may have left Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp has already promised not to 'dwell' on his departure, and it's time to start developing his replacement for next season Jurgen Klopp will not dwell on Sadio Mane's decision to leave

Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, it's official - Sadio Mane has left the club to join Bayern Munich.

The Senegalese star is the first of Liverpool's iconic front three to leave Anfield and look for a new challenge elsewhere, and joins the Bundesliga champions on a three-year deal. Liverpool have done their transfer business very early this summer, allowing Mane to move on while bringing in three new first-team players.

Mane is one of the best players in the world, and no matter who Liverpool have brought in it will be difficult to replace him. But Klopp may already be confident that Fabio Carvalho is ready to make the most of the opportunity, and his former coach thinks he is the perfect alternative for the Liverpool boss.

Klopp hasn't had to say goodbye to many high-profile stars over the course of his Liverpool tenure, with Mane joining Philippe Coutinho in leaving the club while at their best. It's an unfamiliar feeling, but Klopp has already stated that he will not 'dwell' on Mane's departure, and there may be good reason for that.

The German was emotional following Mane's move to Bayern, as he said: "One of Liverpool's greatest ever players is leaving and we must acknowledge how significant this is. He leaves with our gratitude and our love.

"He leaves with his status among the greats guaranteed. And, yes, he leaves in a moment where he is one of the best players in world football. But we must not dwell on what we now lose, instead celebrate what we were privileged to have."

Liverpool have signed Carvalho, Darwin Nunez, and Calvin Ramsay this summer, as they look to begin building the next generation of talent at the club. And Carvalho's former coach thinks that the Klopp's new addition suits him 'down to the bone' as he showered the attacking midfielder with praise.

Carvalho was signed from Fulham after Liverpool initially tried to buy the star in January. And Greg Cruttwell, the founder and director of his former youth club Balham FC has tipped Carvalho to be a raging success under Klopp.

"The type of player he is, he suits (Jurgen) Klopp down to the bone," Cruttwell said in an interview with BBC Sport. "The great thing about him is he keeps things simple. He passes and moves at pace, he sees things.

"He could be in that generation that replaces the likes of [Roberto] Firmino and Sadio Mane. If he is patient, and he has to be, then he will be, he will keep working hard. I'm very confident he will succeed."

There are many question marks over how Liverpool will line-up next year, as Nunez can play either as a natural no.9 or out wide, and Carvalho can also operate as a no.10. Liverpool haven't played with an attacking midfielder since Coutinho left the club, but that could be about to change.

They will have to refresh something, as not many players can take on the same role as Mane. But Carvalho will be fancying his chances next season, although Liverpool will be sweating over the future of Mohamed Salah, who's in the final year of his contract.
