Keith Curle interview goes viral after asking wife to be in "sexy mood"

Hartlepool United interim manager Keith Curle raised eyebrows on Saturday afternoon when he asked his wife to be in a "sexy mood" in a TV interview.

Curle's side came from a goal down to beat Grimsby Town 2-1 in the League Two clash at Victoria Park. The win was a huge boost for Hartlepool, as they moved off the bottom of the table after winning just one of their first 16 league fixtures this season.

Curle, 58, is best known for representing Manchester City in the Premier League between 1991 and 1996 before moving into coaching. The former England international's bizarre comments on Saturday afternoon proves he still loves the Citizens - as well as his wife.

"I woke up this morning and I had three requirements: us to win, Man City to win and my missus to be in a sexy mood on a Saturday night," said Curle. "So I've got two out of three so far and now I've got a two hour drive home. So it would be nice to get a hat-trick."

Curle's comments have since gone viral and amused thousands of football fans. He'll be hoping for more positive results at Hartlepool over the coming weeks, as he aims to drag the club to League Two safety and get the job on a permanent basis.

Grimsby took the lead in the sixth minute on Saturday afternoon when Gavan Holohan found the net. Hartlepool fans were beginning to fear another home defeat until a late Alex Lacey strike and an own goal from Niall Maher snatched a precious win.

Curle is one of the most experienced managers in the EFL after spells with Mansfield Town, Chester City, Torquay United, Notts County, Carlisle United and Oldham Athletic. He's also worked as a coach under Neil Warnock at several clubs, including Crystal Palace.

As a player, Curle won three senior caps for England and was part of the squad for the Euros in 1992. As well as Man City, he represented Bristol Rovers, Torquay, Bristol City, Reading, Wimbledon, Wolves, Sheffield United, Barnsley and Mansfield.

Hartlepool supporters will be keen to survive this season, as it's just six years since they dropped out of the EFL for the first time since 1921. Pools returned to League Two in June 2021 after beating Torquay on penalties in the National League play-off final.

Speaking to the Hartlepool Mail, Curle warned: "The supporters at this football club have got to buckle in because it's going to be a rollercoaster. There's going to be some bumpy times, there'll be twists and turns.

"The supporters, I've got to say, played their part massively. The reception the players got at the end and myself and the staff [was excellent]. The support that you get at the end of a game when they've seen their team with effort, application and desire is priceless."

Hartlepool's next game is against non-league Solihull Moors in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon before their League Two campaign resumes with a trip to Stevenage on December 12.
