Kaide Gordon became the youngest player to score for Liverpool in the FA Cup as he netted a vital equaliser in the Reds' third-round tie against Shrewsbury Town on Sunday afternoon.
The teenage forward produced a composed finish in the box from Conor Bradley's cross to level in the 34th minute shortly after Daniel Udoh gave the visitors a surprise lead at Anfield.
Aged 17 years and 96 days, Gordon's goal saw him smash the record previously held by Sheyi Ojo, who scored against Exeter City aged 18 years and 215 days during a third-round replay in the 2015/16 season.
The youngster was only making his second senior appearance for the Reds against League One side Shrewsbury after featuring in the Carabao Cup victory over Norwich in September.
Is Kaide Gordon the next big thing to emerge from the Liverpool academy? Have your say in the comments!
Gordon - who represents England at Under-18 level - moved to Anfield from Derby County last February for a compensation fee totalling £3million including add-ons.
He has already made a big impression and drew praise from Jurgen Klopp after playing the full game in the 3-0 win over Norwich.
"Kaide Gordon, he is ready for these moments," the Liverpool manager said following the match. "He is just ready for it. He is 16 and has a lot of good situations.
"What is really impressive is his physicality. He can go on until 95 minutes, that's really strong."
It is no surprise to see Gordon making waves for the Reds as he was tipped for greatness by Rams boss Wayne Rooney last season.
The versatile attacker made his Championship debut during a convincing victory over Birmingham City in December 2020 and Rooney said: "Kaide is a fantastic player and he has got a lot of potential.
"He has come through the academy. He is 16, he has got a lot of development to do and he is definitely at the right place to do that.
"Of course there will be interest in Kaide because he is a fantastic player, so we expect there to be interest in him.
"We can control what we are doing at this football club, but we can't control if other teams make bids for our players."
Gordon was withdrawn in the 81st minute against Shrewsbury to a standing ovation from the Anfield faithful and was met with a bear hug from Klopp as 17-year-old Melkamu Frauendorf came on.
Fabinho put Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot just before half-time after Ethan Ebanks-Landell handled the ball in the area and fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino increased the lead with a sublime back-heel in the 78th minute.
Fabinho then added his second of the match deep into added time to secure progression to the FA Cup fourth round.
