Jude Bellingham scores to become England's second youngest World Cup goalscorer

The 19-year-old midfielder capped off his first ever appearance in the competition with a superb header to put the Three Lions in front.

After a positive start from England, there was a lengthy stoppage of play as Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand was stretchered off following a nasty collision with teammate Majid Hosseini.

However, the Three Lions soon saw the fruits of their labour as Luke Shaw crossed into the area to find Bellingham, who proceeded to send a lopping header into the back of the net.

He is now the second youngest goalscorer for England at the World Cup following Michael Owen, who netted against Romania in 1998 at 18 years old.

The Borussia Dortmund man, who was 14 when England played in 2018, now also has as many goals in the competition as former striker Wayne Rooney.

And England didn't stop there with Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling making it 3-0 before half-time to have England fans singing to Iran fans in the stadium 'Are you Scotland in disguise?'

Now, with 21-year-old Saka also scoring, England have had two players aged 21 or under both score in a single World Cup game for the first time in their history.

Saka added his second just after the hour mark, before Mehdi Taremi scored what would prove to be a consolation goal for Iran.

Substitute Marcus Rashford then got England's fifth of the game, with the Manchester United forward netting after taking just three touches on the pitch.

Jack Grealish was also on hand to come off the bench and score, before Taremi converted a penalty in second half stoppage time to make the final score 6-2.

England sit top of Group E after one match, with Wales and the USA facing each other on Monday evening.
