The Brazil forward is currently out through injury and his place in the team could be under threat when he does return because of the scintillating form of Jota.
For many seasons, Liverpool's front three have been irreplaceable with Brazil star Roberto Firmino being the final player to line up alongside Salah and Mane.
That no longer appears to be the case though since Jota signed for Liverpool who scored twice against Southampton in the 4-0 win and has been tipped to replace the Reds' number nine.
"Firmino is a different type of player and has done brilliant for Liverpool," talkSPORT host Tony Cascarino told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
"He's been superb for Liverpool as a footballer, his numbers last year were quite poor [though].
"Jota looks like he will easily outscore Firmino if you want to go just stats alone.
"I'm pretty sure I would go Jota over Firmino for numbers," though he pointed out Firmino's strengths lie elsewhere and is still valuable for Jurgen Klopp's side.
In scoring four goals against Southampton, Liverpool became the first team in Premier League history and the first since Sunderland in 1927 to score at least twice in 17 consecutive matches.
Jota has now scored seven goals this season, the same as Mane, while Salah's 11 Premier League goals means the trio have first, second and third in the table.
Leicester striker Jamie Vardy also has seven goals this season.
Incredibly, Jota was actually taking part in an official FIFA 22 international qualifier before the Southampton game, but had to leave early so he could play at Anfield.
'DiogoJota18' said, "I can't play so will miss check in", leading to opponent wishing him well for his real life game.
