Jesus's honest assessment after being handed new Man City role by Guardiola

Gabriel Jesus is happy to be Manchester City's provider - even if it means sacrificing his own goal threat.

Jesus, ostensibly a striker, was played on the right of a front three against Norwich and revelled in the role Pep Guardiola handed him, providing three assists in the 5-0 rout.

With City pushing to sign Harry Kane, Jesus may have to get used to his new role, but he said he is happy to play there in the position he occupies for Brazil.

"For you guys it might have looked different, but for me no, because I'm playing like a winger in Brazil for the national team for the last two years," said Jesus.

"For me to play on the right wing is more normal now. I can help my team with runs in behind, I can help the defenders, that's all.

"It was a great game, great play by the team, and everyone wants to play. We have 25 players who can play good and help the team, so competition is so big."

Jesus acknowledged the competition for forward places is fierce at City, with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and new £100m signing Jack Grealish all vying for places in the attack.

"Sometimes Riyad, Raheem, Jack, Bernardo play," said Jesus. "We try all the time to play well and help the team.

"Riyad and Raheem came on today and both scored to help the team. That's our power - all the players are involved to help the team."

Speaking after Jesus had helped destroy Norwich, Guardiola explained the move, declaring: "He's a player who likes to be in more of a wider than central position.

"That's one of the reasons why I'm a manager - the best moments are when you can work with people and humans like Gabriel.

"He never complains. If he plays five minutes, he plays the best five minutes he can do.

"He's happy on the left, right, centre... and today, the connection with Kyle Walker was exceptional.

"I'm pleased with the performance. He was involved in three of our goals - he's an incredibly important player for us.

"He's so young. A big congratulations because he deserves in life the best. He's so generous and I'm incredibly satisfied for him."
