Jack Wilshere has revealed the strict instructions he outlined to his wife as he closes in on the opportunity to train with Arsenal.
The 29-year-old says he wants his partner to be frank and tell him when he should quit his attempts of finding a new club.
Wilshere has been a free agent since June when he was released by Championship side Bournemouth.
He left West Ham in 2020 following 17 years as a Gunner but his career has failed to pick up.
Once tipped to be England's next big thing before injuries disrupted his progress, the former starlet was recently a guest on the Original Penguin X Campaign Against Living Miserably Under The Surface podcast and opened up on his time without a club.
Wilshere wants his wife to tell him when 'enough is enough'
It was during the episode which he revealed his strict instructions.
"I had this conversation not long ago my Mrs, I just said to her can you tell me when, not when I'm 'mugging myself off', but when I'm trying, training every day on my own and I'm questioning it, having questions on why am I doing this if the club is just saying no."
The midfielder explained: "I said to the Mrs, look just say to me when it's enough, stop going to train on your own and maybe try and focus on something else.
"I'm still without a club. I was training in Italy with Como FC, I've got a relationship with Dennis Wise who is the CEO and he invited me over to train," he revealed.
"Unfortunately they can't do anything because of the rules with Serie B and non-EU players but I'm potentially going over there again to train just to be training with a team, be around players, because before that I was just training my own which is difficult mentally."
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta played with Wilshere for five years during his playing days at the Emirates and has offered him the opportunity to train with the team.
Arteta and Wilshere are ex-Arsenal team-mates
"We are in conversations with Jack to understand as well what he needs what he's looking for," the Spaniard recently revealed. "He's a person and a player who has huge admiration from everyone.
"We are willing to help him as much as we can. He knows that."
Pressed over whether there could be any chance of the midfielder re-signing for the Gunners, Arteta responded: "I wouldn't take it that far."
In another recent candid interview with The Athletic, Wilshere revealed he would be keen to try his luck away from home soil, saying: "I've said before that I'm open to going abroad. In fact, I probably want to go abroad.
"I want to try something different. I think it'll be good for me, for my life, for my family," he affirmed.
"Have a fresh start somewhere where people, clubs, fans don't think, 'Oh, that's Jack Wilshere. He's going to get injured today', or, 'He'll play five games and that's it… waste of an investment."
