Lionel Messi is coming to the end of his first season in the MLS with Inter Miami.

The footballing icon headed to the USA in July and has since played five league games while also leading his new club to their first-ever trophy.

Messi's arrival rejuvenated Inter Miami as they went on a winning streak before lifting the Leagues Cup following a victory on penalties against Nashville.

But ultimately in the MLS, they couldn't be pushed into play-off contention and were eliminated, meaning their season comes to an end this weekend.

Messi has been struggling with an injury in recent weeks and has barely featured, but he looks likely to be back in action for the final game…

The legend featured for Argentina during the international break and told the media after a 2-0 win over Peru: "I'll play the game that is left now."

His club have not yet confirmed that he is available.

Manager Gerardo Martino mentioned earlier this week that there was a chance that Messi could play, with his fitness being assessed after he returns to the US.

And after hearing Messi's comments about playing, Martino's stance was the same, as he said on Wednesday: "Tomorrow we'll talk with him.

According to ESPN, Messi's potential appearance in the final game of the campaign has boosted ticket sales for Charlotte.

They have sold 60,000 tickets for the game as fans aim to get a glimpse of one of football's greatest this weekend.
