It has been revealed that Liverpool are unlikely to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in 2022 despite saving funds this summer.
The Reds only new acquisition for the 2021/22 Premier League campaign is defender Ibrahima Konate, who signed from RB Leipzig in a £36million move.
Many assumed that Jurgen Klopp would push for a midfielder, due to the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, and a forward, due to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane being absent for January due to the African Cup of Nations.
However, the former Dortmund boss stood by his current squad depth, with some suggesting that an overhaul can now be expected in 2022.
Erling Haaland has been unstoppable this season for Dortmund
If that is the case, then Liverpool fans have every reason to be excited, but they won't be seeing sought-after Haaland playing for them at Anfield according to former Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
When asked if Haaland was seen as Robert Lewandowski's replacement by Bild, Rummenigge said: " With Lewandowski, you have the best centre forward in the world. Haaland is the second best,
"I think Bayern are interested in Robert staying beyond the end of contract in 2023. Haaland is an investment. I don't think he's going to Liverpool. I know the owner very well and he is not known for opening the (money) box.
"For Haaland, I wouldn't rule Real [Madrid] out. Maybe they'll open the box a little more in the summer and possibly get Haaland and Kylian Mbappe."
Haaland scored 27 goals in 28 appearances last season for Dortmund and has started the new campaign in similar sensational form, scoring five and assisting three in just four appearances.

The Norwegian is thought to have a £68million release clause in his contract at Signal Iduna Park that will become active in August 2022, which is seen as a bargain considering he is just 22 and is tipped to be the best player in the world as he continues to improve.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all previously been linked with the former Molde striker, with the latter club seeing him as an alternative to Harry Kane after their failed pursuit recently.
Real Madrid and PSG are also expected to be keeping tabs on the powerful forward and won't be put off by his price tag, nor his astronomical financial demands.
According to The Sun, Haaland's agent Mino Raiola has called for his client to be paid approximately £825,0000-a-week, which would make him the third-highest paid footballer in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Many clubs are keen on signing Haaland at the end of this season
It is such figures that explain why Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich opted to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan to solve the Blues' goalscoring woes rather than bringing the exciting prospect to Stamford Bridge.
The report goes on to say that Raiola himself is expecting to be paid £34m just for getting a deal over the line and representing his client in contract negotiations.
It remains to be seen where Haaland will be lining up in 2022 but without a doubt that there will be clubs circling around him when next summer's transfer window opens.
