The Metropolitan Police made "a number of arrests" after a pub near Wembley Stadium was rushed by dozens of hooded thugs, two hours before England took on Germany on Monday night.
The Three Lions hosted their old rivals in the Nations League in what was their final fixture before the World Cup gets underway in Qatar in mid-November. The fixture was a sell-out, with 90,000 fans flocking to Wembley, many of whom ventured to nearby pubs ahead of the 7:45pm kick-off.
The Green Man, which is less than one mile from the stadium and a popular spot with England supporters, was one such establishment, with hundreds of fans enjoying a pre-match drink on Monday evening. However, the atmosphere turned sour as numerous insurgents wearing hoods and all-black clothing stormed the pub.
Footage shared on social media showed a chaotic brawl broke out as onlookers fled for safety. Violent scenes ensued for a few minutes and involved around 100 thugs before mounted police officers arrived to disperse them
The Met Police have since released a statement confirming they made multiple arrests, although many of the culprits are said to have fled down Wembley Hill, where at least two riot vans were called.
The spokesperson's statement reads: "At 5:50pm a group of approximately 100 males, many wearing masks, approached a pub in Dagmar Avenue, Wembley through an alley leading towards the car park. While a number of the group were wearing England hats and scarves, it is believed they were German fans.
"The group entered the beer garden of the pub and began assaulting customers, most of whom were in the area to attend the England vs Germany match. Punches and projectiles including traffic cones were thrown Officers responded and the group fled.
"The disorder lasted for around two minutes. A number of people sustained head and facial injuries. We are also aware of three people with serious leg, wrist and thumb injuries None of those injured are believed to be in a life-threatening condition. There have been four arrests so far in relation to the disorder."
Luke Robinson, an eye-witness who visits the Green Man before every home game, was present at the scene with his son and alleged the guilty supporters were "wearing masks and England scarves".
Robinson, 30, told The i: "There's an entrance at the back of the Green Man and about 50 of them turned up wearing masks and England scarves. They stormed in, were hitting anyone and everyone. It was going on for a good five minutes before the police arrived.
"A lot of people were in a bad way. People were on the floor, unconscious, covered in blood. Even kids - one lad no older than 13 had a bleeding nose."
Paramedics were called to the Green Man to treat the injured while other pub-goers tentatively enjoyed the rest of their drinks before heading to the stadium. "One guy was with the paramedics and still unconscious when we left," Robinson said, admitting his son had been left "petrified" by the ugly incident.
He added: "It's the main England pub. I've never seen it like that before and I come to every home game. We were there when England played Germany in the Euros [last summer] and when there was all the trouble around the final, but this is the first time I've seen it like it."
