Kabak scored in Hoffenheim's 5-1 dismantling of his old club Schalke in the DFB Cup on Tuesday, their second win over the Royal Blues in a matter of days following a 3-0 success away from home against the same opposition on Matchday 10. Those two results brought an end to Frank Kramer's time in charge of Schalke, but they also suggest that Hoffenheim have the ability to stay near the top of the table. Andre Breitenreiter's team sit fourth ahead of this weekend's matches, and a sixth league win of the campaign would move them above Bayern. With fellow defender Kevin Vogt suspended for the visit of the champions, former Liverpool defender Kabak could shift into the middle of a back three with Nigeria international Kevin Akpoguma earning a recall to play alongside him. Israeli forward Munas Dabbur scored once in the league and twice in the cup in the recent matches against Schalke, but it is unclear who will join him in attack this time. Andrej Kramaric - who got a double in Hoffenheim's 4-1 home victory over Bayern in September 2020 - missed both Schalke games with a knock. Georginio Rutter would likely continue if Kramaric is absent again, while Christoph Baumgartner will be hoping for another big day out after getting Hoffenheim's goal in a 1-1 draw in this fixture in March.
Mane was upstaged by Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting on Wednesday as Bayern came from behind to win 5-2 at Augsburg in the DFB Cup. While Choupo-Moting struck twice in the that match, both players scored in Bayern's Matchday 10 win over Freiburg last weekend. Mane got his fifth Bundesliga goal of the season, with a 5-0 triumph over the side currently third in the Bundesliga sending a warning to the Bavarians' rivals. Bayern remain four points behind league leaders Union Berlin, however, so Julian Nagelsmann knows the visitors will be under pressure to deliver against his old team. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be given as long as possible to see if he can return from a shoulder injury in time for this game, with Sven Ulreich ready to stand in again if not. Thomas Müller got ten minutes against Augsburg in a surprise early comeback from injury, but it's unlikely that he'll be risked from the start against Hoffenheim. Kingsley Coman could return to the starting XI instead, while Leroy Sane is definitely out.
Match stats
Dabbur has four league goals after 10 matches for the first time, and has already levelled his previous season best (2019/20 and 2020/21).
Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, Müller, and Neuer are the three active players with the most Bundesliga appearances under their belts (1300 combined).
Only Hoffenheim teams coached by Nagelsmann (20, 2016) and Ralf Rangnick (22, 2008) have picked up more points after 10 matches than Breitenreiter's current crop (17).
Mane has scored five goals but also had six ruled out after 10 rounds of fixtures.
Nagelsmann oversaw 136 games in charge of Hoffenheim between February 2016 and June 2019.
Bayern have not won back-to-back Bundesliga games since Matchdays 2-3.
