Since recording their first win of the season away to Augsburg on Matchday 5, Hertha have drawn with Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz and Hoffenheim. The Austrian - who moved onto four Bundesliga goals with his effort in last Saturday's 2-1 win against Mainz - suffered a bruised pelvis in the UEFA Europa League in midweek. The Bundesliga's record substitute goalscorer Nils Petersen was his 20th-minute replacement in the 2-0 win over Nantes, and could lead the line in the German capital. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh scored in both games, while fellow summer signing Ritsu Doan had a direct hand in a Freiburg goal for the sixth time in all competitions. Subject to any continental after-effects, long-serving head coach Christian Streich will see no reason to shuffle his pack. Die Breisgauer have lost just once in all competitions so far in 2022/23 and will need a result to keep themselves top of the pile.

Ejuke has registered an assist in each of Hertha's last three games.

Hertha and Freiburg have conceded 10 and six goals apiece, a respective 5.1 and 4.9 fewer than expected as per xG against - and league-leading discrepancies.
