The Brazilian played on, but went down again later in the half with the medical team seen putting a significant amount of strapping around his ankle to protect it.
However, Guimaraes looked in significant discomfort during the final stages of the first half, but managed to make it to the whistle.

But with the 25-year-old hobbling off the field with Joelinton at the break, the midfielder was seen in tears as he battled the pain on his way to the dressing room.
That was the last glimpse that Newcastle fans would get of their star man against Marco Silva's side, with him being replaced by Allan Saint-Maximin at the start of the second half.
It remains to be seen how severe that ankle injury is, but given the discomfort that the Brazilian was in it certainly doesn't look good.

While his injury was bad news, the afternoon was saved for the Magpies as Alexander Isak struck late on to earn a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham, pushing them up to third in the table.
