Green is one of three Fürth players to have spent time at Bayern's academy, making two appearances in both the DFB Cup and the UEFA Champions League before leaving the champions for VfB Stuttgart in January 2017. The 26-year-old moved on to Fürth later the same year, and helped them earn promotion from Bundesliga 2 last season. Just like in their most recent one-year stay in 2012/13, however, Fürth have found life at the top table challenging. Stefan Leitl's team are bottom of the standings with only one point from their opening five matches, letting a lead slip to lose 2-1 at Hertha Berlin last time out. But despite his 10 goals and three assists in 2020/21, Green might have to start on the bench against his former team. Fürth dropped their midfield diamond and went 4-4-2 recently, with the powerful Jeremy Dudziak coming into the side and winning a penalty against Hertha. While Green is hoping to feature, defender Gideon Jung as well as attackers Robin Kehr and Jessic Ngankam remain sidelined with injury.
Bayern star Lewandowski got his hands on the European Golden Shoe award earlier this week for his spectacular 41-goal effort last season, and the Poland captain looks set to be just as productive this term. He scored for the 13th Bundesliga home match in a row - and for the 19th consecutive competitive club game - during Bayern's 7-0 thumping of Bochum on Matchday 5. The 33-year-old will fancy his chances of adding to his season tally of 11 goals in all competitions in this week's Bavarian derby, but that goes for many of the champions' in-form attackers. Leroy Sane looks in good form after netting in the last two league matches, while Thomas Müller scored on Bayern's last visit to Fürth - a game which ended in a 3-0 victory for the visitors in August 2012. French winger Kingsley Coman, is the only definite major absentee for Julian Nagelsmann's nine-in-a-row champions, although Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry have seen their training interrupted this week with knocks.
Match stats
Fürth trio Green, Timothy Tillman and Adrian Fein all came through Bayern's youth academy. Tillman's brother Malik is still on the champions' books.
Good luck charm for Die Kleeblätter? Fürth have averaged a point per game from their Friday fixtures in the Bundesliga, compared to 0.5 on other days.
Fürth last beat Bayern in August 1964, when they put two past a team featuring goalkeeping great Sepp Maier.
Lewandowski would equal a record set by Maier's former teammate Gerd Müller if he finds the target against Fürth and scores in a 16th consecutive Bundesliga game.
The former Borussia Dortmund striker already has seven goals in five games this term - one every 57 minutes. Musiala's goal involvements (two goals, two assists) have come every 41 minutes he has played.
Bayern pair Leon Goretzka and Niklas Süle will play their 200th Bundesliga games if they feature at the Sportpark Ronhof.
