The Reds are closing in on a £34million deal to sign the Dutch midfielder from Bayern Munich, a move that will add the finishing touches to Jurgen Klopp's side for the season ahead.
But while Liverpool's dealings are all-but completed, the loss of a key players means that the German giants will need to enter the market.
Bayern are interested in a deal to sign Joao Palhinha from Fulham, with the player seemingly keen to join up with Thomas Tuchel's side.
talkSPORT understands that Marco Silva's side have slapped an £80million deal on the midfielder's head, but with Bayern desperate for a midfielder, they may be willing to get close to that price tag.
Of course losing Palhinha would be a huge blow to Fulham at this stage in the window, so they would then need to go and find a suitable placement.

Should that his move to Bayern come off, the chain reaction would continue with Fulham plotting a move to sign Alex Iwobi from Everton.
It's understood that the west London side are in advanced talks over a deal for the versatile midfielder who is now in the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.
This could see the Toffees swoop for West Ham's Maxwell Cornet, who had success under Sean Dyche at Burnley.
And, as a result, the Hammers may revive a deal for Juventus midfielder Filip Kostic who is valued at around £17million.
