Paul Gascoigne and several other Rangers icons returned to Ibrox on Saturday afternoon to play in a legends game against an all-star team that included Luis Figo and Kaka Paul Gascoigne was named Man of the Match in a legends game on Saturday afternoon

Paul Gascoigne made an emotional return to Ibrox on Saturday afternoon to celebrate Rangers' 150th anniversary. The England icon played for the Glasgow club in a legends match against an all-star team, which included Ballon d'Or winners Luis Figo and Kaka.

Captain Figo's all-stars won the game 3-2 thanks to goals from Carlos Marchena, Nuno Gomes and Ricardo Quaresma - who still plays professionally for Vitoria Guimaraes. Rangers took the lead when Hull manager Shota Arverladze scored an excellent header.

The all-stars were heading for a 3-1 win until Gascoigne made his mark. The 54-year-old, who played for Rangers between 1995 and 1998, was brought on with just a few minutes remaining for a brief cameo, receiving a wonderful reception from the Ibrox faithful.

Gascoigne scored when Nacho Novo produced a neat ball into the middle. The midfielder initially fluffed his lines but was allowed another bite of the cherry. David James let his second effort cross the line, creating an emotional moment in Glasgow.

The biggest cheer of the afternoon was heard at Ibrox, as the 57-cap international was mobbed by his team-mates and several members of the opposition. Gascoigne was then named Man of the Match, capping off a wonderful afternoon for the icon.

Almost 40,000 fans attended Saturday's legends match. Rangers were managed by their former boss Alex McLeish, who won two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups between 2001 and 2006.

Is Paul Gascoigne England's greatest international footballer? Let us know in the comments below!

Rangers' team included current boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, as well as Jorg Albertz, Barry Ferguson, Ronald De Boer, Kris Boyd, Alan Hutton, Nikica Jelavic, Pedro Mendes, Michael Mols, Alex Rae, Gregory Vignal, Rod Wallace, Craig Moore and Neil Alexander.

And their rivals boasted even greater talents. Claude Makelele, Eric Abidal and Predrag Mijatovic, Jens Lehmann, Jose Bosingwa, Gheorghe Hagi, Florent Malouda, Robert Pires and Christian Karembeu all attended Ibrox for a special occasion in Rangers' history.

Rangers were established in March 1872 and are one of Scotland's most successful clubs. They've won 55 league titles, 33 Scottish Cups, 27 Scottish League Cups and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. They also reached the final of the UEFA Cup in 2007-08.

The club's original company was liquidated in June 2012 amid financial troubles, causing the team to drop to the fourth tier of Scottish football. They returned to the Premiership in 2016 and won the title under Steven Gerrard last season for the first time since 2010-11.

Rangers are currently enjoying another excellent campaign. They're second in the Premiership, three points behind leaders Celtic. The two teams meet in their next match at Ibrox on April 3. They'll also face each other in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup on April 17.

Yet it's Rangers' European campaign which is gaining the most attention. Van Bronckhorst's side have knocked out Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League. They take on Portuguese side Braga next month.
