The battle between Manchester City and Liverpool went to the final minutes of the final match of the season, however, one side always had to win, which meant that the other had to lose.
Thankfully for Pep Guardiola's side, it was them who were crowned champions after coming back from two goals down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium, rendering Liverpool's victory over Wolves irrelevant.
Emotions were high after the match with City jubilant in celebration and the Reds bitter in defeat, a combination that led to a foul-mouthed exchange between club legends from both teams.
Liam Gallagher is undoubtedly one of City's more vocal supporters and the ex-Oasis frontman couldn't resist taking a pop at Anfield favourite Jamie Carragher on Twitter.
He said: "What you saying Carra you, b****nd."
Rising to the bait, the Liverpool legend couldn't resist biting back at Gallagher with a two-pronged comeback.
"I'm saying you'll never win the Champions league and Oasis are s**** compared to the Beatles. That work?"
However Gallagher wasn't done yet as he came back once again, saying: "Eh Carra you got s*** banter for a Scouser f***ing hell la [sic] you been hanging out with Neville too long.
"Oasis p*** all over the Beatles how many times did they do Knebworth."
Maybe once the dust has settled the two legends will be able to congratulate each other on what has been a stunning title race between two impeccable team.
That said, don't hold your breath as Gallagher also took aim at Aston Villa manager and former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard, who captained the Reds for many years.
"Gerrard can kiss my a*** as well as the bumbaclart his old clubs smash our bus up. MCFC Champions."
He then followed that by tweeting "f*** off slippy Gerrard."
Since the Premier League was formed in 1992, City have won six titles, moving them ahead of Chelsea with five and behind Manchester United's 13.
