Gabby Agbonlahor left in stitches as ex-Villa teammate recalls first meeting

The midfielder starred for Nottingham Forest for four-and-a-half years before sealing a move to Villa Park at the start of 2017.

Lansbury joined the side when they were in the Championship, with Gabby unfortunately enduring an injury-hit 2016/17 campaign.

Both players spent a season-and-a-half together at the Villans and shared the pitch on four different occasions.

Whilst they may have got one well together as teammates, Lansbury revealed to talkSPORT what his first impression of Gabby really was.

Speaking on The Sports Breakfast, he said: "Do you know what? Growing up, I'd always see Gabby in a nightclub.

"I thought, 'What a...' Can I say it? 'What a d*******!' And then I sat next to him in the changing room and we got on like a house on fire! So I was like, 'Ah maybe it's just first impressions.'"

Gabby then spoke on his experience in the game and said that such an instance is not rare: "That happens a lot in football.

"You'll speak to players and they'll be like, 'Ah that player's signing.' And then the player will sign and you're like, 'Oh, he's alright.'

"But when you're playing on the pitch with them you're like, 'Ah he was the one that always got players sent off or wind them up on the pitch.'"

"You used to wind players up on the pitch didn't you, especially when you were at Forest," Gabby said to Lansbury.

And the 33-year-old was not one to disagree as he replied: "That was where we won a game, getting a player sent off."

Villa were the seventh club that Lansbury played for during a career in which he made 379 senior appearances, starting at Arsenal and ending at Luton Town.

He announced his retirement from the game in the summer after he helped guide the Hatters to the Premier League last season.
