Furious Man United fan has wild '8-0' prediction for Liverpool match

talksport.com, 3 January 2025, 14:57
talkSPORT's Andy Goldstein admitted he fears the worst for Manchester United's trip to Liverpool this weekend in a furious rant.

The Red Devils are enduring a difficult season and currently sit 14th in the Premier League, with results failing to improve since the introduction of new head coach Ruben Amorim in November.

Having suffered four straight losses, there is arguably no worse time for United to be facing off against bitter rivals Liverpool.

Arne Slot's side are flying high and boast a six-point gap at the top of the table heading into Sunday's encounter, off the back of a thumping 5-0 win away at West Ham.

And the two teams' contrasting fortunes have left avid United fan Goldstein fearful his side could suffer humiliation at Anfield.

So much so, in fact, that the presenter believes Amorim's group of players could lose as heavily as 8-0 to their sworn enemies.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive alongside Darren Bent, the presenter pointed to the Reds' recent 6-3 win at Tottenham as a indicator of the huge attacking threat United will face.

Goldstein said: "This weekend, and I'm not joking here, but Man United are playing Liverpool, I think the best team on the planet at the moment.

"We saw that when they went to Spurs, [they] scored six goals against Spurs, who were weakened by the way."

He continued: "But having said that, it was at Spurs. This is at Anfield."

Goldstein then reminded co-host Bent of another day to forget for United in recent years, when they were thrashed 7-0 at Anfield in March 2023, and asked him if he felt a worse result could be on the cards this weekend.

He continued: "It wasn't that long ago we lost 7-0, I don't want to sound all doom and gloom."

"Let me ask you two questions, right? Is it inconceivable United could be 5-0 down at half time on Sunday?"

To this, Bent replied: "No."

Goldstein then probed his colleague: "Is it possible Liverpool could score three second-half goals?", to which Bent agreed.

Continuing his furious rant, the Red Devils fan went on: "Right. Man United could lose 8-0 at the weekend. I doubt it, and it might just be 3-0 or 4-0, right?

"If Manchester United lose 8-0, or let's say 6-0, because 8-0 is a bit nuts, then where do you go from there?"

And this wasn't Goldstein's only concern heading into the weekend, as also he questioned Amorim's team selections since taking charge.

Among these were the 39-year-old's continued use of a three-at-the-back system, despite the Red Devils shipping 11 goals in their four consecutive defeats.

While Goldstein admitted he feels Amorim is still the right man for the job, he criticised his reluctance to change his tactics.

He said: "All I'll say is I haven't seen anything yet. Usually when a new manager comes in, you know he's the right man. You go: 'I see where he's going, I see what he's trying to do'.

"But he hasn't changed anything. We constantly have a pop at Ange Postecoglou for only having plan A. Well, Ruben Amorim, so far has only had plan A and he's playing three at the back.
