He'll know more than anyone that the Red Devils' 5-0 humiliation by Liverpool is not acceptable.
But Solskjaer was in defiant mood after his 'darkest' moment as Man United boss, insisting he wouldn't give up on the project he's got going.
It may be out of his hands though and there are numerous reports that the club's top brass are considering relieving the Norwegian of his duties.
Antonio Conte is the bookies favourite to succeed Solskjaer and talkSPORT understands Man United have sounded the Italian out about the job. But others shouldn't be written off just yet.
talkSPORT.com takes a look at FIVE names who could get the job if the Red Devils decide to give the current manager the boot.
The serial winner: Antonio Conte
Teams managed: Inter Milan, Chelsea, Italy, Juventus, Siena, Atalanta, Bari, Arezzo
Major honours: Premier League, Serie A x4, FA Cup
Football's a results business and this guy knows exactly how to get them.
Conte, 52, has had huge success in his managerial career including with Chelsea where he took them from tenth in the table to Premier League champions.
The only downside with him is that he's unlikely to last long. He often falls out with others so sacking him would cost Man United yet more money.
The king of Europe: Zinedine Zidane
Teams managed: Real Madrid, Real Madrid Castilla
Major honours: Champions League x3, LaLiga x2
Another free agent is Frenchman Zidane, who's got experience at bringing success to a club that demands it in Real Madrid.
His specialist subject is Europe having won the Champions League a staggering THREE times.
However, success is pretty much guaranteed when in charge of Real Madrid. As we've seen for almost three years under Solskajer, it isn't at Old Trafford.
The rising star: Erik ten Hag
Teams managed: Ajax, Utrecht, Bayern Munich II, Go Ahead Eagles
Major honours: Eredivisie x2, KNVB Cup x2
Now to the outside contenders and although this may not be the sexiest appointment in the eyes of Man United fans, Ten Hag is a man who loves a big project.
Alongside Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar, he put Ajax back on the map of European football, helping them to the Champions League semi-finals with scalps of Real Madrid and Juventus.
The Man United job may be a bit more than the Dutchman, 51, could chew though.
The former foe: Brendan Rodgers
Teams managed: Leicester, Celtic, Liverpool, Swansea, Reading, Watford, Chelsea Reserves
Major honours: Scottish Premiership x2, FA Cup, Scottish Cup x2, Scottish League Cup x3
A fan called up Darren Bent's Boot Room on Sunday to say he'd even take former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers at this rate.
But this appointment could be quite a shrewd move. After leaving Liverpool, Rodgers won a bucket load of trophies at Celtic as well as the FA Cup with Leicester last season.
He also knows how to beat Manchester City in a cup final with Leicester getting the better of Pep Guardiola's side in the Community Shield in August.
The 'apprentice': Cristiano Ronaldo
Teams managed: Portugal (for about half an hour), Manchester United (a few minutes)
Major honours: None
Ronaldo doesn't have any managerial experience you might say… well it isn't for a lack of trying on his part.
He assumed the role of coach in the closing stages of the Euro 2016 final, where Portugal beat France, gesticulating what were presumably tactics to his teammates.
Ronaldo also coached his Man United teammates behind Solskjaer during the Champions League defeat to Young Boys. Was it actually a sign of things to come?
