Forgotten Premier League striker scores from halfway line to snap goal drought

With Torino's Serie A clash against Empoli inching closer towards a scoreless draw, the contest was crying out for a moment of magic.

Up stepped former Southampton striker Che Adams.

Torino's Nikola Vlasic won possession inside his own half before dishing it off to Adams as the visitors looked to mount a counter-attack.

But instead of driving at the Empoli backline, Adams controlled the ball with the outside of his right foot before unleashing a shot from the halfway line.

Empoli goalkeeper Devis Vasquez was caught in no man's land as Adams' effort flew over his head and into the back of the net.

Adams' strike proved to be the winner as Torino picked up their fifth league win of the Serie A season.

Not only that, Adams' goal came just seven minutes after he was substituted into the contest.

The 28-year-old even earned man of the match honours.

Saints defender Jan Bednarek posted two fire emojis underneath Adams' post while Will Smallbone commented the love heart eyes emoji.

Nathan Tella also commented: "Baby shark."

Adams' sensational halfway goal was his fifth for Torino in all competitions this season and his first since September 29, when he scored in a 3-2 defeat to Lazio.

The Scotland international began the season in strong form for Torino with four goals in his first eight appearances.

However, the goals unfortunately dried up for the 28-year-old and it coincided in a poor run of form for Torino, as they lost six of the following eight games he failed to score in.

But his halfway effort ensured Torino got back to winning ways.

Adams joined Torino as a free agent after his contract at Southampton expired in the summer.

He played a key role in helping the Saints return to the Premier League, scoring 15 goals last term in the Championship.

He had a number of Premier League teams chasing his signature, including Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Adams opted to take the path less travelled and moved abroad to Serie A.

Adams joined a growing British contingent competing in Italy's top flight.

There are nine English and five Scottish - Adams included - players across Serie A, including ex-Chelsea stars Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori.
