Fernandes rages on Swiss bench as Portugal penalty appeal turned down in Nations League

As we all consider whether playing four international fixtures at the end of a long season is sensible, the Portugal superstar is doing all he can to get more wins.

In fairness, that might be because he didn't feel he won enough last season in the Premier League with the Red Devils.

A draw with Spain and wins over Switzerland and Czech Republic will have sated the attacking midfielder.

However, when it came to playing the Swiss for a second time, things didn't go according to plan.

There was no Cristiano Ronaldo - he was having a well earned rest, and his compatriots conceded just 55 seconds in the game in Geneva.

Benfica star Haris Seferovic, who saw himself deposed as the club's top scorer this season by Liverpool-bound Darwin Nunez, grabbed the goal, showing he's ready to come to the fore again.

And while the Portuguese battled hard, registering 20 shots on goal, they couldn't muster a reply.

Fernandes had given his all but was substituted and in added time the Portugese thought they had found a way back into the game.

Nico Elvedi went down easily under the slightest push from Andre Silva and handled the ball in the penalty area, provoking calls for a spot-kick from Portugal stars.

Their pleas were brushed aside though and despite exiting the pitch 16 minutes before the final whistle, he was enraged on the touchline.

Off the bench, he was seen shouting angrily before being held back by some coaching staff.

It was all in vain as the Swiss sealed a 1-0 win, leaving Portugal second in League A Group 2, behind Spain, who beat Czech Republic 2-0.
