It was Liverpool's biggest ever win at Old Trafford, a 5-0 thrashing that had boss Jurgen Klopp saying his team had "written a little chapter of history".
Yet even as the record-breaking humiliation of Manchester United unfolded a year ago, Fabinho found himself at home, sitting in front of the telly…and screaming for his team-mates to push for even more!
The midfielder was injured, and enjoying the match "as a fan" as his team galloped to a 4-0 lead by half time, with Mohamed Salah running riot. That was when the normally calm, thoroughly professional midfielder lost his poise for a few moments.
"To be honest, I wanted the team to attack more to try and score more goals," he explains now as the Reds prepare to visit their great rivals once more. "Sometimes we are in a more fun side than a player side. As a fan, I wanted the team to score more because it was a big opportunity to do a historic score at Old Trafford…but of course 5-0 was not bad!
"We had one more player at that moment, and I was shouting at the tv sometimes. But it was a moment where the team tried to control more of the game, and I try a little to understand both sides!" It is Fabinho's job to actually control those games usually, but a knee injury ensured he'd miss a match which Klopp suggested people will "talk about, long into the future".
He has his own memories of Old Trafford though. He's never lost to United in the Premier League in seven appearances against them, and cemented his place as a Kop hero in his debut against the old enemy in 2017.

"It is always good to play in a big game like this. I think it is the biggest game in England. I remember my first game against them, it is a special memory," he explains. "I was playing good but if you play good against them it gives you a different dimension. The fans will see you with different eyes and maybe the press as well. It was one of my best games in the Liverpool shirt and I was happy.
"It is nice not to lose to your biggest rivals in the league, it shows that maybe you are really strong. I hope it will stay like this because it is always good to win against them!" This is bigger than ever of course, because Liverpool have had a stuttering start to the season…and United a meltdown. A win for both is vital, defeat unthinkable for very different reasons. Liverpool because the gap to City would be daunting even at this stage.
And United, because the club would be in real trouble. Understandably enough, Fabinho relishes that thought! "I think Man United is a really big team and has big money to invest as well so when a team like this is not successful, I think it is good for us because it is one less team that will fight for titles or to win championships," he adds. "I think this is good for us. If this happens with Manvhester City as well I would be happy it is one less team that will fight with us. If things don't happen in the way they expect of course we will be happy because it is one less team on the top fighting for us."
