Ex-Liverpool man Mignolet's staggering stats have helped Brugge make Champions League history

In fact, Mignolet has been utterly inspirational for Club Brugge in the Champions League this season.

The Belgian side were written off by many at the start of the campaign after being drawn in a group with Atletico Madrid, Porto and Bayer Leverkusen.

But they have qualified for the knockout stages with two games to spare.

And incredibly, Mignolet's goal is yet to be breached in five group matches, including two against Spanish giants Atletico.

The Belgium international totted up a remarkable tally of nine saves during a 0-0 draw against Diego Simeone's side on Wednesday night, making it 14 in total across two games.

He is the second-most productive goalkeeper in this season's competition, with 21 saves in total.

And it was his heroics which sent Club Brugge into the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in history.

"This is a dream," he said of their progression. "We fought until the end and we finally did it. But our story doesn't end here: let's see how far we can go!"

Mignolet collected a Champions League winners' medal as a bit part player at Liverpool in the 2018/19 season, before calling time on a six-year career at Anfield.

But this will probably taste even sweeter for the 34-year-old.
