Evra lifts lid on fight with Vidic that forced Ferguson into Man Utd change

Patrice Evra has lifted the lid on a three-month long feud he had with Nemanja Vidic that forced Sir Alex Ferguson to make a change at Manchester United.

The pair of defenders both signed for the Red Devils in January 2006 from AS Monaco and Spartak Moscow respectively, staying in the same hotel but not getting along so easily upon their arrival at Old Trafford.

Speaking at recent event for a partner of United's, Evra explained: "We had a fight - me and him - and didn't speak for three months.

"We played together and we didn't even say a word. I never told him to go left or go right. He was the same.

He revealed: "Ferguson had to swap Rio Ferdinand to play on the left side with me!"

The Frenchman continued: "It was like that for three months until, after a game, I remember he came to me in the dressing room and gave me a high-five.

"Everyone was like 'finally' because we were best friends together, Vida and me. We have a deep story together."

Evra also recounted a disappointing match for the two rearguard men playing for the Red Devils' reserve side, having each struggled to adapt to life on the pitch in the Premier League and having opportunities to leave their new club.

"We arrived at the same time and we struggled together," the ex-left-back said. "We were at the same hotel, I remember, and we were so bad at the beginning, me and him.

"The manager sent us to play with the Reserves and the coach was Rene [Meulensteen].

"After 45 minutes, he subbed us - in the Reserves!" Evra exclaimed.

"In the dressing room, Vida was saying, 'My agent called me, I need to go back to Moscow.'

"Also, my agent called me and said they had [interest from] AS Roma. It was difficult here."

But Vidic and his former United team-mate now have a "really great relationship," forged out of their shared tribulations in the north west of England.

"So we struggled together. It's why I have a lot of respect for Vida," Evra went on.

"I love him so much. We struggled but we were really real, me and him.

"If we were doing something wrong, we'd argue but, in the same way, it was a really great relationship."

The duo are now considered greats of their respective positions at Old Trafford, each picking up five Premier League winners' medals as well as getting their hands on one Champions League, three League Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Both the Serbian centre-back and the 81-capped France international left the club following David Moyes ' ill-fated tenure that ended in 2014 after he took on the challenge of replacing Ferguson in the Theatre of Dreams dugout.

And they each went to Italy, with Vidic joining Inter Milan and Evra Juventus, before the latter had spells with West Ham and Marseille.
