Only three years have passed since Italy's exhilarating run to glory at the delayed Euro 2020 tournament, culminating in their penalty-shootout success over England at Wembley in the final, and the Azzurri are present in Germany to defend their crown after their World Cup 2022 failure.
However, the likes of England, France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and hosts Germany will be among the leading contenders to dethrone Italy as kings of Europe, where the new continental champions will be crowned in Berlin on July 14.
Here, Sports Mole rounds up everything you need to know about today's Euro 2024 action, including which teams are in action, how to watch and what to keep a particular eye out for.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN TODAY'S EURO 2024 MATCHES
Poland vs. Netherlands
After only earning a ticket to the Euros finals via a nerve-jangling penalty-shootout success over Wales, Poland enter their clash with one of the tournament favourites deprived of one of their chief offensive threats.
Indeed, Barcelona hitman Robert Lewandowski will not be available due to a muscle injury, forcing the Poles to improvise up top against the Netherlands, although they are riding high on a five-match winning streak.
However, not since 1979 have Poland prevailed against the Dutch - who are also bereft of a key Barcelona man in Frenkie de Jong due to injury - but Paris Saint-Germain starboy Xavi Simons is without question the player to watch.
Slovenia vs. Denmark
Competing at the Euros for just the second time as an independent nation following the breakup of Yugoslavia, Slovenia only missed out on top spot in their qualifying group on goal difference and possess one of the most sought-after attackers on the continent.
Benjamin Sesko struck five goals in qualifying and also ended the Bundesliga season with goals in seven straight games for RB Leipzig, who warded off the Premier League vultures and managed to tie the 21-year-old down to a new deal just a matter of days ago.
However, the Slovenians face a particularly daunting battle against the Danes, who reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 before a disappointing group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup, which they now seek to rectify.
Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund - two Manchester United-clad attackers - spearhead the Red and Whites' charge against Slovenia, who have never got the better of Denmark in six previous attempts.
Serbia vs. England
A couple of weeks will pass before England fans learn whether football is indeed coming home, but the Three Lions endeavour to make the perfect start to life in Group C against Serbia, whom they are facing for the first time since the latter became independent.
While the majority of Gareth Southgate's XI picks itself, Declan Rice's midfield partner has been a particularly hot-button topic, and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to be spraying his spectacular passes from such a role.
Over in the Serbians' camp, head coach Dragan Stojkovic is facing a particularly tricky dilemma up top, where Dusan Vlahovic and all-time leading goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic are both vying for one attacking spot.
Record-appearance maker and ex-Southampton man Dusan Tadic will be offering support to the lone striker, as will Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, now donning the Al-Hilal colours are a highly successful Lazio spell.
WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY AT EURO 2024?
After Germany made history with the biggest opening-day victory at the European Championships, more records were broken on matchday two, one from perhaps the unlikeliest of sources.
Albania's Nedim Bajrami scored the quickest goal ever seen at the competition, netting after just 23 seconds to stun reigning champions Italy in Group B, but the Azzurri soon settled and fought back successfully through Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella to triumph 2-1.
Earlier in the day, a colossal clash between Spain and Croatia proved to be a mismatch on the field, as La Roja eased to a 3-0 win over Zlatko Dalic's side thanks to first-half strikes from Dani Carvajal, Fabian Ruiz and Alvaro Morata, while 16-year-old Lamine Yamal became the youngest man to ever feature at the Euros finals.
Before the Group of Death commenced, Switzerland survived a scare to sink Group A rivals Hungary 3-1, where the Rossocrociati exploded out of the blocks but fell asleep in the second half, only to have their bacon saved right at the death by Breel Embolo.
