England's European U21 Championship final to be shown live on UK TV after late deal struck

The European Under-21 Championship final between England and Spain will be shown live on Channel 4 on Saturday, the broadcaster has confirmed.

The Young Lions are gunning for glory as they make their first final appearance in 14 years against Spain, who have been victorious in three of their last seven tournaments.

The tournament hosted by Romania and Georgia had been broadcasted on UEFA TV, however due to England's superb run to the final, Saturday's clash will be shown on free-to-air television after a late deal was struck by Channel 4.

talkSPORT is the only place to hear the final on radio and can be accessed on the move via the app.

Channel 4's Chief Content Officer Ian Katz said: "Channel 4 has brought a number of historic sporting moments to a free to air audience in recent years and we're delighted that the nation will be able to watch England's Under-21s as they attempt to make their own bit of history against Spain on Saturday.

"The Young Lions final will be part of a bumper weekend of sport on Channel 4 with live coverage of qualifying for the British GP earlier on Saturday and the Grand Prix itself on Sunday."

The final kicks off at 5pm UK time and will provide England with their most stern test of the competition so far.

Lee Carsley's side have yet to concede a goal in the competition which has seen Newcastle's Anthony Gordon and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White praised for their superb displays.

England booked their place in the final thanks to a 3-0 win over Israel while Spain comfortably saw off Ukraine 5-1 in the other semi-final.

The Young Lions are hoping to end their barren run in the tournament stretching back to their last success under Dave Sexton in 1984, who led England to back-to-back triumphs.
