Latest
After taking two points from their first three games of the new Bundesliga season, Frankfurt have found top form. The Eagles beat promoted Werder Bremen 4-3, before putting four without reply past RB Leipzig last weekend. Götze broke the deadlock against Bremen, while fellow summer signing Randal Kolo Muani has scored, assisted or both in all but one of his five Bundesliga appearances to date. Left-back Luca Pellegrini missed the Leipzig rout, but should start after Christopher Lenz picked up a thigh strain in the midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to Sporting Lisbon. Sebastian Rode remains on the sidelines, so Paris Saint-Germain loanee Junior Dina Ebimbe will likely continue in the centre of midfield. Ex-Wolfsburg boss Oliver Glasner can also count on the likes of UEFA Europa League-winning contingent Rafael Borre, Makoto Hasebe and Ansgar Knauff, should he choose to change things up.
Wolfsburg head coach Niko Kovac is a familiar face in Frankfurt. He saved the club from relegation in 2016, before masterminding their DFB Cup win two years later. It was also the scene of his final match in charge of Bayern Munich - a 5-1 defeat in November 2019. He enjoyed mixed success at Monaco, and is still searching for his first Bundesliga win as Wolfsburg coach. Despite taking the lead against Cologne last time out, the Wolves succumbed to their third defeat in five, having also lost to Leipzig and Bayern, and begin the weekend in 17th place, on two points. Jakub Kaminski, Omar Marmoush and Mattias Svanberg could all be reinstated in a bid to rectify the club's worst ever start to a Bundesliga season after five rounds of fixtures.
