AC Milan loanee Hauge's only taste of success in Frankfurt has come in a 3-1 UEFA Europa League win over Olympiacos. It's four Bundesliga home games without three points this season, with the 2-1 defeat to Hertha Berlin a fortnight ago the club's first on their own turf since June 2020. That was followed last weekend with a 2-0 defeat at promoted Bochum as the Eagles nosedived to 15th - only two points above the relegation play-off spot. Good news for Oliver Glasner is that captain Sebastian Rode has returned to training following his knee injury. However, he will have to wait for his first start since the DFB Cup first round in August. Rafael Borre and Sam Lammers should also be given a start together up front, after Goncalo Paciencia suffered a minor thigh strain in the Bochum game.
USMNT international Adams played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday as Leipzig progressed to the last 16 of the DFB Cup with a 1-0 win at fourth-tier Babelsberg, but has been more of a bit-part player in the Bundesliga so far. Dominik Szoboszlai got the winner during the week on the stroke of half-time, to go with the goal and assist he got from the bench last weekend in the 4-1 triumph over Greuther Fürth. The Hungarian may also have to give way as leading scorer Christopher Nkunku and Emil Forsberg return. Andre Silva has lost his place to Yussuf Poulsen up front and is set to start on the bench in his first return to Frankfurt since his summer move. Yet to win away from home in the league this season, Die Roten Bullen will be boosted by the expected return of Dani Olmo to the squad after a month out with a thigh strain.
Match stats
After four straight Bundesliga games of being directly involved in a Frankfurt goal, Filip Kostic has gone two without contributing.
The Bochum defeat marked Paciencia's first Bundesliga start for Frankfurt since 24 February 2020. He missed the first penalty of his career, having previously converted 15 in all competitions.
With eight points on the board, Frankfurt have made their worst start to a season after nine matches since 2003/04. They had five points at the same juncture back then, and were ultimately relegated.
Nkunku has had a hand in six of Leipzig's last 14 Bundesliga goals.
Poulsen has only scored four times in 28 Bundesliga appearances since finding the net in Frankfurt on 21 November 2020.
Leipzig are winless in their last seven Bundesliga away matches (D2, L5).
