The 0-0 draw with Greuther Fürth at the weekend was a frustrating outcome for Oliver Glasner's side as they look to secure European football again next season, but it means Frankfurt are unbeaten in their last four in the Bundesliga since being edged 1-0 by Bayern Munich - a scoreline Barcelona can only dream of against Germany's champions. Martin Hinteregger will return to the starting line up after missing the Greuther game through suspension if Sebastian Rode remains in reserve. That has been the case recently, with Glasner opting for more attacking options in the form of Daichi Kamada and Jesper Lindstrom playing off central striker Borre. If Rode does start, one of Kamada or Lindstrom could make way, with the Frankfurt skipper sliding in alongside Kristijan Jakic and Djibril Sow in a more conventional midfield three. Either way, the ever-present threat of Filip Kostic remains down the left. He will fancy he chances with neither Dani Alves nor Sergino Dest available for Barcelona.
Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was sharing international duties with Marc-Andre ter Stegen just a week ago and will now go up against his Germany teammate. Ter Stegen learned his craft at Borussia Mönchengladbach, chalking up 127 appearances before making the move to Barcelona. Aubameyang is another familiar face in the Catalan club's ranks, having spent four-and-a-half highly productive campaigns at Borussia Dortmund. The Gabon international - who won the DFB Cup with BVB in 2017 - has been in impressive form since joining Barca, and scored the decisive goal in the win over Galatasaray in the previous round. Both Aubameyang and Ter Stegen will be two of the first names on Xavi's teamsheet, while Aubameyang's fellow former Dortmund man Ousmane Dembele is also expected to start in attack.
Match stats
Borre is Frankfurt's top scorer in 2021/22 with eight goals in 37 competitive games.
Kamada is Eintracht's four-goal top scorer in Europe, though, and the competition's record Japanese marksman (10 goals in 24 games).
Kostic is top dog for assists with 12, including four in the Europa League.
Frankfurt's home record in the Europa League, including qualifying, reads: W15, D6, L3.
Aubameyang and Dembele are former Dortmund teammates of Frankfurt captain Rode.
Barcelona have lost their last three meetings with Bundesliga opposition, going down 3-0 home and away to Bayern in this season's Champions League groups, and 8-2 in the 2019/20 one-legged quarter-finals.
