Arsenal transfer target Dusan Vlahovic appeared to wave at the Fiorentina fans during his side's 3-0 win over Genoa - although there is some debate over why he did it.
The Serbian is the club's top scorer with 16 for the season and could have made it 17 when Fiorentina were awarded a penalty on the 11th minute at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
But Vlahovic saw his cheeky Panenka penalty saved by Genoa goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.
The set back though, was only that, a set back, as Fiorentina rallied after the missed spot-kick and were 3-0 ahead before half-time.
Upon returning to the pitch for the second half Vlahovic was seen making his way towards the Fiorentina fans and waving.
Former Arsenal star Stewart Robson was providing co-commentary on the match for BT Sport and suggested the forward may have been saying goodbye to the supporters amid his links with the Gunners.
Robson said: "Very interesting the way that Vlahovic, as he came back on, waved to all the fans. A lot of the players, the Fiorentina players, gave him a hug and said something to him as well.
"Could this be his last half of football for Fiorentina?"
Commentator Paul Dempsey replied: "Well you're very well informed normally Stewart."
It has since been suggested, however, that Vlahovic was not bidding farewell to the Fiorentina fans but instead apologising for his missed penalty.
He made up for the mistake further when he finally found the net in the second half, scoring his side's fifth of the night and his 17th of the campaign in their 6-0 hammering over their Serie A rivals.
According to Corriere della Sera, Arsenal have already submitted a hefty £50million bid for Vlahovic.
Their offer is also said to include a permanent move for Lucas Torreria, who is currently on loan at Fiorentina.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his attacking ranks this January and has identified Vlahovic as the perfect man to take the baton from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arteta is also in the market for a new midfielder with Youri Tielemans high on his wishlist.
But Arsenal have also made private contact with Juventus star Arthur Melo over a potential move to the Emirates, with the Brazilian keen on trying his hand in the Premier League.
